Trainers Tend to Hundreds of Players, Including Dozens of Division I Prospects

Several athletic trainers from Resurgens Orthopaedics took the time to volunteer their expert skills at the recent Big Shots Premier Basketball Tournament. Resurgens trainers participating included Adrian Noble, Mark Wentworth, Karen Hayes, Don Van Volkenburg, and Greg March.

The tournament took place in three sets of two-day sessions at Milton High School, and Alpharetta High School, March 20-21, April 17-18, and May 29-30. Fifty teams of boys ages 10-17 participated in the tournament each day.

Over 750 of the 1,500 NCAA Division 1 signees in 2009-2010 attended the Big Shots tournament, making Big Shots the number one national exposure event in the United States.

 “At Resurgens we are very involved in our local communities. I am proud of all our athletic trainers who participated in this event,” said Resurgens co-president Dr. Kay Kirkpatrick.

With so many NCAA Division 1 players participating in the tournament, they were extremely fortunate to have some of the best athletic trainers available to treat them if they were to incur any injuries during the tournament.

The trainers were more than happy to provide emergency and preventative care for the athletes. Such services included taping, stretching, splinting, and wound care.

 "The event was a terrific display of great athletic talent.  It was an honor to participate in this event and help provide orthopaedic care to the elite teams,” said Resurgens trainer Adrian Noble.
